Working with our client Prairie Lights Power GP Inc., McCallum Environmental Ltd. (MEL) completed the first ever power plant application under the new Federal Impact Assessment Act (“IAA”) in December 2019. With input from the owners (Tina Bakarich), engineering (SNC-Lavalin), air modelling (Bryce Dawson) and legal team (Terri-Lee Oleniuk), MEL completed both the initial and detailed project descriptions and summaries for a 360MW gas-fired power plant, located south of Grande Prairie, Alberta.

You can read more about this project on the Federal Agency Website.

As a result of the environmental work, and our client’s level of engagement with indigenous groups along with their ongoing commitment to engagement & environmental protection, the Agency determined that a full federal assessment under the IAA is not required. Another “first” under the new Act!
